Nantucket’s beaches have it all — soft sand, fun waves, calm water, and beautiful sunsets. Just 14 miles long, this crescent-shaped island has 12 pristine beaches. Each beach has its own unique characteristics. If you summer on Nantucket, Fly Louie recommends spending time on each beach. However, to help you make the most of a weekend getaway or week-long summer escape, we put together our list of the three beaches you can’t miss on Nantucket.

Fly Louie’s team conducted extensive research to reach our conclusions. We combed the many beaches of Nantucket, eyeing the wave height, testing the softness of the sand, and taking in the warmth of the sun to come up with the best three beaches to visit while on the island.

Here’s Fly Louie’s picks for the top 3 Nantucket beaches:

Surfside Beach

Located on Nantucket’s southern shore, Surfside is one of the island’s most popular beaches. It has it all — a great surf and a wide beach to picnic, lounge, read a book or toss the football around. It’s in our top three beaches on Nantucket because simply put, it provides the best overall beach experience. Make sure to bring some sunscreen!

Washing Pond Beach

For a relaxed beach experience, one where you can read a book, wade into the water, or just chat with friends and family, Washing Pond is the beach. Much less known than Surfside, Washing Pond is a beach on the North Shore that offers calm water, high dunes, and an overall peaceful experience along the Atlantic Ocean. The crabs there are huge!

Madaket Beach

Located at the West End of Nantucket, Madaket is a great place to swim, boogie board, or view sea lions. The surf can be heavy at times, so it’s important to check conditions. This beach is also the best spot on the island to take in the glowing oranges, yellows, and reds of the sunset. Of the three beaches, it is the least crowded and the Fly Louie Team’s favorite!
